What are “active blocks”? A block is “active” if it's anywhere in the growing lifecycle — from substrate prep through resting. Once a block is completed, contaminated, or discarded, it no longer counts toward your limit. Your historical data is always kept regardless of plan.

Think of it as how many blocks you have in-flight at any given moment, not how many you grow in total. A farm doing 30 blocks per week with an 8-week grow cycle would have roughly 240 active blocks at a time.

What about “active lab items”? Same idea on the lab side. An “active lab item” is any culture, agar plate, or liquid culture that hasn't been archived, used, contaminated, or discarded. Lab items move slower than blocks — a culture can sit in a freezer for years — so the lab-item cap is 2× the block cap at every tier. The two caps are independent: you get the full block allowance AND the full lab-item allowance. Pure-lab operations (breeders, spawn suppliers, research labs) can run up to the lab limit without paying for block capacity they don't use.
